I think Nancy's spirit will live on in many people, because of her openness and warmth. We will all miss her. My love goes out to the family.
Kathy and I were so sorry to hear of Nancy's passing, but know she was bravely positive to the end. We had independently enjoyed working with Nancy at EBRPD, Kathy from the Rec. Dept. and I from Public Safety. She was a creative icon, at the Park District. We happily were able to keep in touch with her through Rufus's sister, Betsy Van Popering, who has become a dear friend in SW Washington. The very touching obituary mentioning Nancy's ability to foster a greater sense of community and to creatively meld that ability into camping trips, etc., reminded us of a short tale. We were planning a dinner party with Betsy, her daughter Coby, and Coby's husband, Jeff. The theme was "Happy Birthday, Julia Child." Nancy, wanting to join the fun from a far off campsite, made a series of wonderful sketches of Julia, really capturing her love of cooking and enthusiastic style. Then Nancy encouraged us through Betsy or Coby to each try a sketch of our own...the sketchbook was the hit of the party! While Kathy and I will sadly miss the memorial service, Nancy will be close in our thoughts. Betsy will attend, and if you see her, ask about that sketchbook...
We are so sorry for your loss! Our love goes out to you and your family.
I knew Nancy best when my sons were still in strollers--when I visited my parents across the road from Tracys. So many wonderful talented things that I did not know about her. From the time we met in the 1950's, whether being with her or only hearing about her, I could see that that small woman had a huge impact me and so many others. May you support each other now in these different years ahead.
