Shiela E. Erickson, 97, a longtime resident of Los Altos and Menlo Park, died June 23, 2006, at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View.
She was born on Nov. 23, 1908, in Albert Lea, Minn. She graduated from the University of Minnesota and in 1939 moved to Palo Alto, where she worked in the department of education at Stanford University.
She married Ira E. "Mac" Buckholtz in 1939, and they lived in Menlo Park from 1944 until 1970, when they moved to Los Altos. She continued living there even after he died in 1973.
In 1977, she married Herbert S. Erickson, who also preceded her in death. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Palo Alto and active in a number of organizations including the AAUW, Allied Arts Guild Auxiliary and the Cosmopolitan Club. She was also a member of several bridge groups.
For a number of years, she worked in Stanford University's psychology department on the Terman Study of Gifted Children.
She enjoyed gardening, traveling, reading and keeping up with current events and valued her many friends from as far back as her college days.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Johnson of Lafayette; her sister, Dorothy McGrew of Palo Alto; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her second husband's daughter, Judy Garvens of Lafayette; his son, Ed Erickson of Woodbury, Minn.; his five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
