Lasting Memories

Sabra Driscoll
March 2, 1925-July 19, 2025
Palo Alto, California

Sabra Driscoll died peacefully in her longtime Barron Park home on July 19, 2025.

Sabra was born to Rear Admiral Edgar (USN ret.) & Barbara Kranzfelder in Annapolis, Maryland on March 2, 1925. She moved often as a “navy brat” until attending and graduating from Sequoia High School in Redwood City. Sabra then attended Stanford University (class of 1947) where she met John Driscoll (class of 1948) when they worked together as hashers at Lagunita Hall. The two were married in Memorial Church after Sabra’s graduation and soon settled in Palo Alto. Sabra attended graduate school at San Jose State, but was stopped just shy of obtaining her teaching credential by the birth of their first child.

Thus, the focus of Sabra’s teaching shifted to the five Driscoll children. Sabra’s energy and exceptional work ethic resulted in a most blessed family. Healthy, home cooked meals were regularly served in the home Sabra made beautiful by her own lovely water color paintings, photography, and flower arrangements. Countless camping trips and Sabra’s love of gardening have given her children a special appreciation for the beauty of creation. Sewing, knitting and crocheting kept Sabra from feeling idle when the family would take in shows on the television. Sabra & John hosted yearly reunions of their fellow Stanford hashers for 40+ years and Sabra hosted 75 years of very large family celebrations.

Sabra considered herself fortunate to be a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church, the Miriam Circle, several garden clubs, book groups, tennis, hiking, & bridge groups. Sabra served many years with the Allied Arts Guild helping raise funds for the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford. She remained active all her years, eventually settling for a daily routine of aerobics and Qui Gong followed always by a long walk.

She was predeceased by her husband John and their oldest son Michael, but she is survived by Zoe & Keith Schirmer, Will & Rebecca Driscoll, Barbara Larsen, and Mia Driscoll and also 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

She is dearly loved and is sorely missed. A celebration of her life will be held at Grace Lutheran Church at 3pm on September 14th.
