Atherton, California

Robert (Bob) Bostwick Beim, affectionately known as “Bear,” passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 26, 2025. He was 82 years old.

Born in Minneapolis and raised in California, Bob attended Menlo High School in Atherton as a boarding student. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1966 with a degree in Biological Sciences, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity and the ROTC program. A proud Golden Bear throughout his life, he rarely missed a Cal football game. After graduation, he served his country as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, spending most of his tour of duty in South Korea as a Field Artillery Officer, a pivotal chapter of his life that he recalled with pride and honor. Following his military service, he earned an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, concentrating in finance and investments.

Bob’s career began at Arthur Andersen & Company in San Francisco, where he specialized in tax and financial planning. He then pursued his passion for real estate by co-founding Beim & James, a firm that developed, acquired, and managed commercial properties across the western United States. In 1989, he transitioned to Woodside Asset Management, where he served as Managing Director, and later continued his distinguished investment career with Osborne Partners Capital Management. Bob was a trusted advisor and mentor for over four decades.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bob was deeply committed to education and healthcare. He served for more than a decade on the Board of Directors at Lucile Salter Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford, chairing both the Finance and Investment Committees. He also contributed his expertise to the UC Berkeley Foundation as a Trustee and Chair of its Investment Committee, and served on the UC Regents’ Investment Advisory Committee.

Bob was a devoted and active member of many clubs, including the San Francisco Golf Club, Menlo Country Club, The 200 Club, and The Bohemian Club (Hermits). He was passionate about golf, and traveled the world to play acclaimed courses in Scotland, Ireland, Portugal, and across the United States.

Bob was a humble, natural, and diplomatic leader who always sought solutions that benefited everyone involved. He is remembered for his intelligence, integrity, generosity, quick wit, and humor, and above all for his innate gift of making others feel special and valued.

He was deeply devoted to, and loved by, his family. Bob is survived by his wife, Nancy Cummings Beim; his three children: Tucker and his wife Amy, with daughters Lauren and Mariah; Carter and his wife Kelly, with children Colin, Christopher, and Katelyn; and Margaret and her husband Gregorio Santiago, with daughter Olivia Rose; as well as his brother John Pierson.
