Richard Rosenbloom, 91, a well-respected television and movie producer, passed away peacefully at the Vi of Palo Alto, California, retirement community on March 28, 2015.
He was born in Far Rockaway, New York, was a graduate of the University of Michigan, and continued his education at The New School for Social Research in New York and The Ecole Technique du Cinema in Paris, France. He served as a naval aviator (pilot for LTA-blimp) and aerial navigator during World War II.
He joined CBS Television in New York during the days of live television before moving to Southern California in 1960. He worked as an executive at MGM, Four Star Television, Filmways and Orion Pictures, and as an independent producer and executive producer. He retired in 1994 as president of Orion Television. He received a number of awards for his productions, including a Golden Globe, numerous shared Emmys, three Christopher Awards and a George Peabody Award. His production credits include the "Cagney & Lacey" movie and long-running TV series "Hollywood Squares," "Pioneer Woman," "Berlin Tunnel 21," "Mad Bull," "240-Robert," "The Kennedys of Massachusetts," "For Richer...For Poorer," "The Love She Sought," "No Place Like Home," the mini series "Sinatra" and too many others to list.
He is predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Jean Simon Rosenbloom, who died in 2008. He is survived by sons, Robert Rosenbloom (Fina) and Steven Rosenbloom (Natasha), and grandchildren, Ryan and Uliana.
