Lasting Memories

Nicholas Jenkins
Jan. 2, 1983-Aug. 11, 2016
Menlo Park, California

Nick Jenkins, 33, a lifelong resident of Menlo Park passed away August 11, 2016, after a 7-year battle with a brain tumor.

Nick never complained while enduring multiple treatments and faced each setback with strength, dignity and a sense of humor.

We will always remember Nick for his kindness and compassion for friends, children and animals.

Nick graduated from M-A in 2001 and after working a variety of jobs, returned to school at Santa Barbara City College where, as an older student, he excelled and began to realize his potential. Diagnosis of the tumor in 2009 cut his education short and he returned to Menlo Park for treatment.

Nick loved playing baseball and played in Alpine Little League, Alpine Senior League on regular season and All-Star teams and at M-A where he made the varsity as a starting pitcher as a sophomore. In his junior year, he maintained an ERA of less than 1.0. He pitched for a short time at Canada College before shoulder surgery ended his career.

Nick was a Giants fan his whole life and a Warriors fan way before they were good.

Nick is survived by his parents, Carrie and Colin, his brothers Sam and Gabe, his cat Squints and a large extended family that he loved very much.

We were all inspired by his strength in facing so many difficulties. He was always calm and never once did he complain or feel sorry for himself.

We all hope that if we are ever tested as Nick was tested that we would do half as well as Nick did. We were privileged to be right by his side holding his hands when he passed on. As a last act of kindness, Nick donated his corneas to SightLife.

A small, private celebration of Nick's life will be held at a future date.

Dear Jenkins Family...I can not express how very sad I feel for you. When a young person passes, it always puts in my mind this hiku that I learned long ago. It is so true....dew evaporates, and all the world is dew, so swift, so dear, so fleeting !.....Know that Steve and I send our love and prayers !
