Marian Rae Moomey Gex, age 90, passed away on June 23, 2023 at Channing House in Palo Alto. Her legacy encompasses a deep affection for family and friends, a strong emphasis on the importance of education, and a genuine appreciation for art and culture. Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, Marian displayed remarkable intelligence from an early age, becoming valedictorian when she graduated high school at just 16 years old. She pursued higher education at Nebraska Wesleyan University, where she excelled and served as the editor of the weekly campus newspaper.

In 1954, she married the love of her life, Robert Campbell Gex, and together, they built a life in Palo Alto filled with love and admiration for the cultural arts. As a dedicated mother, she embraced the joys and challenges of raising four children: Timothy Dean, Teresa Clare, Nicolette Leone, and Nancy Estelle.

Marian's pursuit of knowledge led her to attain a Master's degree from San Jose State University. She dedicated many years of her professional life as a school psychologist in both Los Gatos and Half Moon Bay, California. Through her work, she positively impacted the lives of countless students and families, leaving a lasting legacy in the educational community.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Marian was an active and valued member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW). She was particularly passionate about fostering a love for literature and cinema, chairing both the film buffs and book group within the organization. A lifelong democrat, Marian supported many liberal causes including the Sierra Club, Planned Parenthood and the American Civil Liberties Union.

In her later years, Marian found solace and happiness at the Channing House retirement home, a community about which she often raved. Surrounded by caring staff and kindred spirits, she treasured the camaraderie and cherished moments shared with fellow residents. She was a doting grandmother who had a knack for choosing just the right books as gifts for her seven grandchildren and two great grand daughters.

Marian Gex's life was one defined by her unwavering dedication, intellectual curiosity, and compassionate nature. Her presence enriched the lives of those around her, leaving a profound impact on family, friends, and the community she touched.

As we bid farewell to Marian, let us carry her spirit, love for learning, and kindness in our hearts. Her memory will forever live on in the stories, experiences, and memories we share, reminding us of the remarkable woman she was.
