Lasting Memories
Kay Hamilton Miller
Feb. 10, 1936-June 2, 2020
Palo Alto, California
Kay Hamilton Miller, loving wife, mother and sister, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 2nd, 2020 in Palo Alto, California at the age of 84 after battling cancer. Kay grew up the oldest of eight children on the family ranch in Patterson, CA, which was homesteaded by her great-grandfather in the mid-1800’s. An excellent student, she attended Stanford University where she studied International Relations. At Stanford, Kay met the love of her life, Thomas Miller, on a blind date. Kay and Tom enjoyed a loving, life-long marriage of over 60 years. After Kay’s graduation from Stanford, they moved to Seattle where Tom attended grad school. Afterward, they settled in Palo Alto where they raised their two children, sharing their love of literature, theater, athletics, art, and nature. Kay worked for TSI, a company which made a reading instrument for the blind, and also for the Women’s Action Center. Kay was a warm, loving, generous person who loved spending time with her family and friends. She was always quick to celebrate special occasions. A gifted painter, she enjoyed visiting art museums and galleries with friends and family. She is survived by her beloved husband Thomas Miller, her son Matthew Miller, and daughter Kathy Miller Kelley, as well as by her three beautiful granddaughters, Elizabeth, Isabela and Adeline. She is also survived by her six siblings: Donna Ensminger, Marilyn Schmidt, Gail Hamilton, Marsha Hamilton, Chris Hamilton and Robert Hamilton.
From Cynthia DeBenedetti November 5, 2020 Tom and family - I’m very sorry to just now hear about Kay. She was a very talented, inspiring artist and a member of our portrait drawing and figure painting class at the San Jose Alameda Artworks from 2003 to 2008. Kay was always up-beat and cheerful, had a responsive polite chuckle. Always a very kind person and worked hard at drawing, painting, and her artwork. We were fortunate to have her as part of our group. With heartfelt condolences and fond memories. Cynthia DeBenedetti
Tom - I'm so sorry to hear about Kay. She's been missed at the last few lunches of the Class of '57 women. I remember the fun times that we had at Durand House our senior year. She was the house president & was a wonderful leader & well-liked by all. Sincerely, Susie Pillsbury
