Danton William Rehor died Nov. 22, 2011, with his two sons, Charlie and Bill, at his bedside.
Dan, a native of Waukegan, Ill., was born on Feb. 28, 1935. He was educated at Northwestern University and then the University of Michigan, where he earned his graduate degree in History. While on a double date, he met the love of his life, Lois Rollins. The fact that she was the other guy's date did not deter him at all, for which his children are forever grateful.
Dan and Lois moved to Palo Alto to allow Dan to pursue his PhD in Education at Stanford University. He later sacrificed this pursuit in order to devote himself to his two young sons. He was active in Charlie's Boy Scout troop (Troop 2) and served as the Treasurer for the Friends of the Palo Alto Children's Theater, where Bill spent many years. Dan was a counselor and history teacher at Homestead High School until his retirement.
Dan and Lois were avid bird-watchers. In addition, Dan was a talented water-colorist, became a fine lawn-bowler with Palo Alto Lawn Bowls, and volunteered as a naturalist for many years at thePalo Alto Baylands Interpretative Center. Dan was active in his church, Saint Ann Chapel of Palo Alto, and his family is thankful for their support.
Lois passed in 2005. In retirement, Dan became a doting grandparent to Henry, Madeline and Evalie, giving them far too much and asking for nothing in return.
Dan is survived by his sons, Charlie and Bill; daughters-in-law Carmie Rehor and Mary Ann Mayer; grandchildren Evalie Carolyn, Henry Danton, and Madeline Ann; and his three sisters: Charlene (Mrs. Dr. John) Hengesh of Palm Springs, CA, Janyth (Mrs. Ferol) Fell of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Natalie (Mrs. Kenneth) Glesener of Anaheim Hills, CA.
Services will be held at Saint Ann Chapel, 541 Melville Ave., Palo Alto, CA 94301 on Sunday, Dec. 4, at 11 a.m., with reception to follow at the Palo Alto Lawn Bowling Club, 474 Embarcadero Road, Palo Alto, CA 94301.
Donations in Dan's memory can be made to Saint Ann Chapel.

Mr. Rehor as I remember him was a patient, well tempered man. He was my advisor at FBLA Homestead. I am thankful for his teaching and service, accompanying us to conferences and attending all our meetings.

Dan was my master teacher at Homestead in 1990. Dan?s calm, kind, and outstanding mentoring truly provided a wonderful foundation for my professional development. His keen sense of humor and intelligence was evident in every conversation we shared and he understood how to develop the ?whole student?. Dan was an incredible man I?m am so grateful that I had the opportunity to work with and be mentored by him.

It was my pleasure to work with Dan the last nine years of my teaching/administrative career. He was my rock in the Guidance Department and his knowledge and experience was the glue that made Guidance run. He never lost his "cool" and his wonderful sense of humor kept us in joyful laughter. I'll miss him.

When Ann and I joined the HHS community in 1967 Dan was already a veteran faculty member and his kindness toward us personally and professionally allowed us to take our place there with confidence and assuredness. His respect toward us and all the people he encountered created a kinder and gentler world for which I will be eternally grateful. Thank you Dan
