SAN JOSE - Wayne Martin, 78, passed away May 26, 2022 at El Camino Health, Mountain View, CA after a long and courageous battle with leukemia.
Wayne was born July 22, 1945 in Norman, Oklahoma, the son of Morgan and Esther (Ansell) Martin. He was the eldest of three children and born during World War II. He grew up in the Ballentine Place neighborhood of Norfolk, VA and was an outgoing boy. He enjoyed playing trumpet for the school band and basketball. Wayne was a member of the Trinity Baptist church until he moved away for college.
Wayne graduated from Maury High School in 1963 and went on to Old Dominion college in Norfolk, VA. He graduated in 1968 with a degree in Geology. He immediately went to graduate school at State University of NY (SUNY) at Buffalo with a major in Geology. He was nearly finished with his thesis when in 1969 he was drafted in the US Army for the Vietnam War. Wayne served as a Captain in the Signal Corps. After the war, Wayne began to work in the beginning stages of the computer industry in Silicon Valley, CA. He remained there for 30+ years working for start up companies and eventually doing contract work.
Wayne enjoyed local politics in Palo Alto and writing for the Palo Alto Newspaper. His was an avid non-fiction writer of the Civil War and enjoyed genealogy. He is survived by his brother, Glenn Martin and his wife Jennifer and family of Brunswick, Maine. His younger brother, Gary Martin, lives in San Jose, California.
Wayne’s generosity touched many lives and his philanthropy will live on. He will be sadly missed.
