Vincent Bontempi
1926-July 19, 2008
Mountain View, California

Vincent Bontempi, a Mountain View postal worker and popular Peninsula community theater actor, died July 19, 2008. He was 82 years old.

Born in New York, the son of Italian immigrants, Bontempi grew up one of five siblings in San Francisco. After serving as second lieutenant and bombardier instructor in the Army Air Corps, Bontempi worked as an auto mechanic, carpenter and contractor, bartender, and finally as a postal worker in Mountain View.

Bontempi was a dedicated union member, and was responsible for the construction of a new union hall for the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 1427 in Santa Clara. Just two months ago, he cut the ribbon at the grand opening of the building. The facility's meeting room has been named in his honor.

Throughout his life Bontempi enjoyed fishing, cooking his "famous" biscotti, and spending time in the garden. He raised three children, one of whom died tragically young, with his first wife, and spent his later years traveling with his second wife.

Bontempi was preceded in death by both wives, Blanche and May Bontempi; son Gregory Bontempi; and three brothers. He is survived by two sons, Art Goodtimes and Doug Bontempi; two sisters; and a large extended family.

My dad Vince Bontempi acted in many plays in Palo Alto. He also came to visit me in Telluride, Colorado, where he enjoyed fishing -- one of his favorite hobbies.
