Susan Avril Schneider

Susan Avril Schneider passed away peacefully in her home in Menlo Park, California on February 19th, just two weeks after celebrating her 90th birthday with family and friends. She was born and grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio the daughter of George Anton Avril and Olga Bauer Avril and graduated from The Hillsdale School. Susan attended Sweetbriar College, Smith College and the University of Kentucky.

Her greatest source of pride was her family. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 46 years, Philip Vanderbilt Schneider and her brother Thomas Bauer Avril (Diana). Susan is survived by her brother John George Avril (Charlotte) and her sons, Philip Vanderbilt (Kathy) Schneider, Jr. and George Weir (Shelley) Schneider, grandchildren Philip Joseph Schneider (Heidi), Katherine Tully Schneider, Christopher George Schneider (Natalie), Nicholas James Avril Schneider as well as two great grandchildren, Philip John Schneider and Barrett Charles Schneider.

After Susan's marriage to Philip they moved to Menlo Park where they lived for most of their forty-six years together. Susan was a long time member of the Junior League of Palo Alto-Mid Peninsula and was a founder and longtime volunteer at the Discovery Shop in Redwood City which supports cancer research. During her fifty-five year membership at the Menlo Circus Club, Susan loved playing tennis, socializing with friends and participating in the Charity Horse Show. While living in Palos Verdes, Susan was a docent specializing in tide pools at the Cabrillo Beach Museum in San Pedro, she never stopped learning. Susan and Philip travelled the world by air, train, car and sailboat. Numerous friends accompanied them on their adventures. Susan was an accomplished designer. She completely remodeled her two homes, working side by side with the architect and the craftsmen. Susan handled even the toughest jobs with grace, sportsmanship and her ever-present diplomacy. She was also a great supporter of local artists whose work she admired.

Her family and friends wish to give their thanks and gratitude to the ladies who cared for Susan, AKA Boss Lady, for the past 10 years. Maria, Katie and Christina dedicated their lives to Susan. Because of their expert and loving care, Susan was able to enjoy her homes, friends and family with grace and dignity. Susan will be missed by all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers please give to the charity of your choice. Services will be held at the Indian Hill Church in Cincinnati, OH at 11:00 AM, August 1st, 2025.
