Michael Alan Bena
April 2, 1943-Jan. 15, 2024
Erie, Colorado

A kind and loving man to all who knew him. He was devoted to his daughter Michelle Hickerson and his three granddaughters; Aislinn, Mary and Scarlett were a joy to him beyond words. He loved being a part of their lives, even more since he moved to Erie, Colorado to be near them all. Mike had a good relationship with son inlaw Jeff and appreciated all the ways he helped him.

Michael's creative life began at an early age, building anything for his parents, Al J. and Evelyn M. Bena in Palo Alto. And at his father's business, AJ's Quick Clean, also in Palo Alto. He graduated from Cubberley High School in 1961. He majored in art at San Jose State and his projects there in painting, clay and finally wood mixed media with music were worthy of the finest galleries. Master's degree in art 1967.

His love of the ballet in San Jose, SF and Colorado manifested in dedicated support over many years and is a legacy that we hope will be appreciated by all who were a part of those organizations. He rarely missed a rehearsal or performance and frequently brought flowers to the dancers, another example of his thoughtfulness.

He loved and appreciated wild animals, making friends of squirrels, skunks and raccoons. His dogs, kitties and especially his horse Corney were a central part of his life.

We cannot name all of those he touched but we are sure you will miss his beautiful smile and very funny sense of humor. He also leaves behind his brother David Bena and sisters Priscilla Williams and Susan Nightingale. He made a positive and significant impact on the lives of everyone blessed to know him.
