Marilyn Elizabeth Farmer passed away peacefully with her children by her side on August 5, 2021. She was born in 1929 in San Francisco, California to Harold P. “Brick” Muller and Zanita Campbell Muller. Marilyn attended the Hamlin School in San Francisco, followed by Bradford College in Massachusetts where she met her future husband, Clifford Farmer. Marilyn and Clifford were married in 1949 and together they had six children. They resided in Syracuse, New York before moving to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1962 where she eventually settled in Palo Alto for the remainder of her life.
She was beloved by all her children’s friends who felt that Seale Avenue was like a second home for them. Marilyn always made her home a warm and welcoming place to be. She loved to sing and play the piano. Marilyn was a long-time member of the Clef Hangers Choral group and the Junior League of Palo Alto. She also found enjoyment in serving her community by mentoring underserved youth. While raising her six children, she began her career as a switchboard operator at Cornish and Carey Realty. She attended night school to obtain her real estate license and subsequently worked as a realtor for over 30 years. While working full time, she managed to attend her children’s numerous activities and sporting events.
Marilyn is survived by her children Zanita Singleton (Steven) of Oakland, Ca, Melissa Coughlin of Carlsbad, Ca, Clifford Farmer Jr. of Redwood City, Ca, Jincie Duane (Ken) of Falmouth, MA, Jeffery Farmer (Elisa) of Mountain Green, UT. She is predeceased by her daughter, Elizabeth Farmer. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Marilyn’s beautiful smile will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.
