In Loving Memory of Lovey Del Sarto

Rolla “Lovey” Del Sarto, a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, loyal friend, and lover of all things furry and free-spirited, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2025.

Born with a heart of gold, Lovey found joy in life’s simplest and most beautiful moments — walking on the beach, watching horses run, time spent in her yard, sharing laughter around the dinner table, and offering a warm lap or treat to any dog lucky enough to cross her path.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tom Del Sarto, her parents - Rolly & Miriam Somer, and her dear sister Gayle Cromwell. She is survived by her children, Rolly Steele, Tom Del Sarto and Rob Del Sarto, who were a constant source of pride and joy in her life. Her legacy lives on in her treasured grandchildren — Diana Tole, Erin Lehman, Rob Del Sarto, Kerry Del Sarto, Shea DeBrie, Delaney Ray, Rolly Steele, and Michael Steele — and her eight great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sister Elizabeth Somer, whose bond with Lovey was filled with deep love and shared memories.

A true daughter of the hills, when she was younger she rode her beloved horse Clover across the open land of Sharon Heights. Her bond with her father was extraordinary; she was, in every sense, his “son,” a fiercely loyal daughter who stood by those she loved with unwavering strength.

From a young age, she was a beautiful lady who stood out — she modeling at age 17. Whatever she set her mind to, she pursued with remarkable intensity. She didn’t just talk about doing the right thing — she did it, even when it was hard. She lived her life with integrity, grit, and authenticity.

She was a relentless spirit, a woman who truly "walked the walk." Her passions ran deep: the music of Hank Williams Sr. — to her, the only real country — and the screen presence of John Wayne, her all-time favorite. She found joy in running DJ’s salon and being at the heart of the action. Her life was full of character, conviction, and a kind of honesty that’s hard to come by. She will be remembered for her strength, her style, and the fearless way she moved through the world.

Whether it was a home-cooked meal, a warm hug, or a story shared over coffee, Lovey brought comfort and joy to all who knew her. She always wanted to hear how you were doing, what was new and always wanted to make sure to check in. Her phone calls, voicemails, handwritten cards, and copies of photos- brought a smile to everyone she shared them with. Her passion for animals, family, and good food made every day an opportunity for kindness, celebration, and connection.

She will be missed deeply, loved always, and remembered with every wave that meets the shore and every animal who finds a forever home.

A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at Catholic Church of the Nativity in Menlo Park on May 29th at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a Guide Dogs for the Blind— a cause close to Lovey’s heart.
