Laura, a Mountain View resident for 46 years, was born in 1942 in Winton, Minnesota to Eino and Mary (Franti) Paaso. Laura is survived by her husband Robert, Son Eric William, Step-son Geoffrey, nieces Lisa, Lori, Karen and nephew, David.
Laura’s family, and older sister, Adele, moved to Seattle when Laura was one year old. Laura grew up in Seattle and graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in English Literature. She moved to San Francisco where she married and subsequently lived with her first husband, Jim, in Naples, Italy for three years until he passed away in an automobile accident. After returning to San Francisco, Laura attended graduate school and was employed by Manpower, Inc. Laura spent most of her career serving as a Branch Manager with the Social Security Administration in the Palo Alto, Mountain View and Sunnyvale offices until retiring in 1988.
Laura was very active in the Mountain View and surrounding communities. She served two four-year terms as Public Service Commissioner for the City of Mountain View as well as serving for various civic and public service organizations. For years, Laura served as President, Officer and Board Member for Quota International, a non-profit organization serving the needs of the deaf, hard of hearing and those with speech difficulties.
Laura was also active in Eric’s schools. She was involved with the Parent Teachers Associations as well as contributing to the many fundraising and other events supporting Eric’s academic and athletic activities.
