Jean Weed Bodding
April 6, 1923-April 13, 2015
Kirkland, Washington
Jean Weed Bodding, a 36-year resident of Palo Alto, died peacefully in her sleep April 13, 2015, in Kirkland, Washington. She had just celebrated her 92nd birthday.
Born in Berkeley, California, in 1923, Jean moved with her family to Woodside and later to Palo Alto. She attended Peninsula School, Jordan Junior High and Palo Alto High, where she graduated in 1940. She furthered her education at San Jose State University with a concentration in music.
Jean married Richard K. Bodding Sr. in 1947. Together, they were charter members of Grace Lutheran Church, where she was director of the junior choir and helped in the nursery. When her children were young, Jean was active as a Cub Scout, Bluebird and Campfire Girl leader, and she also provided before and after school in-home care to neighborhood children.
Upon her husband's retirement, Jean moved to Gold Hill, Oregon. Always a music lover, she worked for the Britt Music Festival that was held yearly in Jacksonville, Oregon. As a lifelong Oakland A's fan who in later life moved to Seattle, she enjoyed attending games between the A's and the Mariners and reveled in the rivalry with her daughter and grandchildren.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Richard K. Bodding Sr. She is survived by her two daughters, Karen Bodding and Heidi Bodding (husband Ronald Long); her son, Ben Bodding (wife Sandra); and grandchildren, Anneliese Bodding-Long and Tristan Bodding-Long. Private interment is planned at Alta Mesa Memorial Park.
