George Francis Evans, 85, a longtime resident of Palo Alto, died at Stanford Medical Center Nov. 26.

He was born in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

He was a retired United Airlines employee, World War II veteran and avid historian.

Loved ones recall him as leading a full and active life and as someone who had a smile and warm wave for passersby.

He is survived by his children, Marcia of Palo Alto, Gene of the United Kingdom, Donna of Winston, Ore., and Carol of Stratford, Okla.
