Charles B. "Charlie" Miller Jr., who lived in Menlo Park from 1973 to 1993, died of cancer at his San Jose home on Jan. 18. He was 60.
Mr. Miller was born in Gastonia, North Carolina. He lived in several southeastern states, as well as Japan, as his father was in military service. He graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1969 with a degree in mechanical engineering.
During Mr. Miller's career, he served in presidential, vice presidential, and other senior positions in a number of startup and established electronic design automation companies, including Applicon Inc., Analog Design Tools Inc., Exper Test Inc., and Design Acceleration Inc. Most recently he initiated and evaluated potential mergers and acquisitions for Agilent Technologies Inc.
A world traveler and outdoor enthusiast, Mr. Miller climbed Mt. Whitney, hiked to Machu Picchu, visited China's Great Wall, and toured historical sites throughout Asia and Europe. He was an avid reader and gourmet chef, and was respected for his knowledge of fine wines, say family members.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Lois Miller; son Charles B. Miller III and daughter Sara Miller, both of Palo Alto; his mother, Reba Miller, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; and brother Bradford Lee Miller of Atlanta, Georgia.
