Barbara Bong Blinn
Dec. 31, 1941-Aug. 25, 2025
Wheaton, IL

Submitted by Deborah Zingg

Barbara Bong Blinn, 83, of Wheaton, IL passed away peacefully on August 25 surrounded by her care team and family. She was born in Chicago, IL on December 31, 1941 to Jane and Kenneth Bong from North Dakota and was raised in Menlo Park, CA. In the second half of her life, she lived in the Wheaton area for 42 years.

Barbara is predeceased by her loving husband, James Kemper Blinn, and is survived by her two daughters, Bonnie and Debbie (Martin); grandchildren, AJ, Ava and Frank; sister, Nancy (John).

Barbara graduated from Menlo-Atherton High School in 1960 and spent her free time attending many youth activities at Menlo Church (formerly Menlo Park Presbyterian Church).

Barbara had a short stint working at the local phone company and was also a Recreation Director for Menlo Park City summer programming. Her favorite job was being a mom.

Anyone who knew Barbara, says her faith in God as a devoted Christian was her anchor throughout her life. She raised her two daughters to develop their own faith in God, which was probably her greatest gift to them, as well as encouraging them to pursue a college education.

Barbara also had a deep love for her country, The United States of America. Barbara took her right to vote seriously, as a right not to be dismissed or ignored. One of her most defining moments in her life was seeing the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in high school. This visit brought to light the reality of loss and the brave men and women who serve our country.

If Barbara were to leave you a verse, it would be from Matthew 5:9, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” And if she were to give you advice it would be find a church that deepens your faith and helps you to become closer to God. Barbara loved to sing hymns and music was the one thing that truly brought her joy in her final days. She hopes to see you all in heaven, so you can join her in singing her favorite hymns.
